A huge thank you to RCM branches!

Last year Maternity support worker (MSW) Week 2019 was bigger and better than ever thanks to all the incredible engagement among reps and maternity staff in RCM branches up and down the country. The collective effort to promote and support our MSW membership sees a 40% rise in joiners since 2017.

From 25 November to 1 December, RCM branches held lots of events including trolley dashes, conferences, award ceremonies and much more. We saw health care teams gather when they could to show so much kindness and appreciation for the work MSWs do.

Here are some of the key highlights of what we achieved:

• Over 100 MSW Week events took place
• We saw a substantial rise in our MSW membership and predict to have over 100 MSW advocates in the first quarter of 2020
• Our social media presence reached thousands and was the best year for engaging with branches and supporting their events

In addition, we also collaborated with Health Education England (HEE) to share its MSW Competency Framework and promote the new education standards for MSWs in England.

As we settle into International Year of the Midwife, its as important as ever to not only promote and celebrate the incredible work of midwives, but to also recognise and appreciate everybody’s role in the maternity team.

We look forward to our next MSW Week celebrations this year, which will commence 16 to 22 November.
