Wales in conversation

ABMU RCM Branch is one of 200 RCM branches across the UK, working hard to support our members and increase opportunities for midwives working within our health board.
After piloting the Branch Handbook for the Royal College of Midwives, we have been able to structure our branch meetings to better help us plan our activities. The handbook has helped us to become more active and following our feedback, the guide has been rolled out across the UK.
We hold fundraising events for our chosen charity, Women’s Aid and organise learning events, study days and conferences to share knowledge and bring our members together. We are the first in Wales to affiliate our branch with our local university’s Student Midwifery Society, which was launched at our AGM in October 2016. Our connection with Swansea University Student Midwifery Society will link learning events and foster a good working relationship with our future midwives.
Our branch has recently launched a Twitter account - follow us at @AbmuRcmBranch. We began by live tweeting during our AGM using #BranchingOut. We hope to use social media to connect with a larger network of students, midwives, charities and professionals in order to increase our potential, sharing new and innovative ideas along the way.
We held a Twitter session within our branch meeting and tweet fever has been spreading through our trust. We hope to lead the way as Wales’ first RCM branch to connect via Twitter and hold further sessions to explore how social media can benefit and engage our midwives.
