The Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) and Public Health England (PHE) are leading the UK government response to the coronavirus

Current government advice is for everyone to stay at home, except in specific situations.

You should only leave the house for 1 of 4 reasons:

  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
  • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
  • any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
  • travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home

The Department of Health and Social Care have also released the attached poster and below video highlighting the importance of hand-washing amongst other measures to combat the coronavirus. This information is to be shared amongst colleagues and women.

As the Government is currently advising people to stay at home for most of the day, which could result in not getting enough vitamin from sunshine exposure during the spring and summer. With this in mind, the Government is advising taking a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D. We therefore recommend that whilst the stay at home measures are in place, everyone follows this advice (including children, pregnant and breastfeeding women and older people). This advice is not about preventing coronavirus (COVID-19) or mitigating its effects. Vitamin D is needed to keep bones and muscles healthy.
