‘RCM welcomes new guidance for clinical academic roles in midwifery’

The Association of UK University Hospitals (AUKUH) has today (Monday 14th November) released new guidance for clinical academics in midwifery.
The publication which has been supported by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) entitled; Transforming healthcare through clinical academic roles in nursing, midwifery and allied health professions: A practical resource for healthcare provider organisations*. It is hoped that this will support improved engagement between NHS organisations and universities across the UK.
Clinical academics serve as a crucial connection between the NHS and universities, working to train future generations of healthcare workers while engaging in research which can improve outcomes for patients and help increase efficiency.
Commenting Carmel Lloyd Head of Education and Learning at the RCM said; “The RCM welcomes the publication of this guidance that we hope will assist in improving the implementation of clinical academic roles across the UK.
Clinical academic roles within midwifery are vital in improving the profession and putting invaluable clinical research into practice. This new guide will hopefully enable NHS organisations to provide better support and resources not only for midwifery academics, but for all allied health professionals engaged in similar research, which will ultimately enable midwives to deliver even better care to women, babies and their families.”
