RCM comments on King’s Fund report on maternity services feedback

Today the King’s Fund has published a report on the use of user feedback in maternity services. The report  - ‘Feedback from users of NHS maternity services’ - says that feedback from users of NHS maternity services has a key role to play in tracking quality of care and shaping service improvements.

Commenting on the report, Louise Silverton, Director for Midwifery at the Royal College of Midwives, said: “This report recognises the value that maternity services place on receiving and acting upon feedback. It provides practical help for services to enhance their collection and use of feedback.

“It is clear that a mixed methods approach to gaining the views of service users is the best approach. This is not at all surprising given the diversity of the childbearing population.

“Recent reports into maternity services such as the England Review: Better Births, emphasise the importance of personalising care. It is only by seeking feedback and incorporating it into the care provided that this aim will be achieved.”
