A new model of clinical supervision for midwives in Wales was launched today (Friday April 28th) by Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Professor Jean White.
Speaking at an event in Cardiff the CNO today announced the introduction of a new employer-led model of clinical supervision for midwives in Wales.
The aim of the new model is to provide support and advice to midwives in Wales giving opportunities for learning and improved practice to provide support to women in choices of care.
Commenting, The Royal College of Midwives (RCMs) Director for Wales, Helen Rogers says; “The RCM very much welcomes today’s announcement by the CNO on the new model of clinical supervision for midwives in Wales.
“We are delighted that Wales has led the way in developing this important new model of supervision. Wales has previously led the way in developing new clinical models and it is great to see this happening again.
“The new model will also further support and empower midwives to assist women in making the best personal choices about the type of maternity care and birth choices that they feel are right for them.
The RCM believes that supporting midwives and maternity support workers (MSWs) will not only improve safety, but will ensure women, their babies and families receive the highest level of maternity care right across Wales.”
