RCM announces RCM Board election results

Seven new midwives have joined the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) board following board elections. Two existing board members have also been re-elected to the RCM Board. The new Board take up their roles on 1st September 2017.
The seven new Board members are:
- Giuseppe Labriola – A midwife with over 10 years’ experience currently working within Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, a large multi-site trust in South East London. Giuseppe is currently the Head of Midwifery at the University Hospital Lewisham site and his passions include ensuring that maternity services are absolutely family centred and that staff, women and their families within maternity services have a positive experience.
- Dr Jenny Hall – A midwife for over 35 years and currently a facilitator of education and researcher at Bournemouth university. Jenny was also a member of the previous RCM Council and has been a RCM branch chair.
- Kate Evans – A midwife in Wales since 2006, she has worked in all areas of clinical practice. Kate is currently a Public Health midwife within Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABMU) in Wales specialising in areas such as smoking, obesity and perinatal mental health. Kate works closely with the Public Health locally to improve services for women who access maternity care. She is a member of the All Wales Tobacco Alliance advising Welsh Government and sits on the All Wales Perinatal Mental Health Steering Group. Kate is also an RCM workplace representative and is part of a very active RCM branch in ABMU.
- Michelle Beacock – A midwife since 2012, Michelle has worked as a delivery suite and community midwife and as a caseloading midwife, and was also a social worker for 10 years. Michelle currently works at Liverpool John Moores University as a Senior Lecturer.
- Tracy Miller – A midwife since 1992 and a community midwife for 17 years working in Aberdeenshire. Tracy was a member of the 2016 Review Group for Maternity Services in Scotland. This set out a vision for the future planning, design and delivery of family centred care in Scotland. She was also in the Maternity Models of Care subgroup which looked at existing services and current models of care in the national, regional and local context.
- Birte Harlev-Lam – Birte has been a midwife for 32 years – working in all areas of midwifery. She was a head of midwifery and a general manager for women’s and children’s services. She is currently the Clinical Director for Maternity in NHS Improvement, particularly focusing on workforce and clinical care, developing quality improvement programmes across England.
- Pauline Twigg - A midwife for 21 years Pauline has worked in many areas of midwifery including hospital, standalone birth centre, community and a secondment to the Royal College of Midwives as a caseworker. She currently works as a Community Midwife and a RCM workplace representative at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The two current Board members who have been re-elected are:
- Helene Marshall - A midwife for over 35 years holding a variety of clinical roles. She is now an Educational Project Manager for NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and Director of the Scottish Multi-professional Maternity Development Programme (NES).
- Professor Jane Sandall CBE - A midwife since 1980, Jane has worked in a variety of settings including work in Malawi and as a midwife and health visitor in London. Since 2000, she has been at King's College, London based at St Thomas’ Hospital in London in a multi-disciplinary Clinical Academic Research Centre. Jane is also a Senior Investigator for the National Institute for Health Research.
