Homerton University NHS Foundation Trust signs up to RCM’s Caring for You campaign

Homerton University NHS Foundation Trust have become the latest Trust with maternity services to sign up to The Royal College of Midwives (RCMs) Caring for You campaign.

The RCM’s Health and well being campaign has become a huge success with three-quarters (75%) of all maternity services across the UK now committed to the campaigns charter.

Launched in June 2016, the RCM’s Caring for You campaign is encouraging all trusts across the UK to sign up to its campaign Charter.

The Charter aims to improve services for women and babies by improving the wellbeing of midwives and MSWs and is one of the cornerstones of the RCM Caring for You campaign. 

Signing the Charter means trusts commit to working with the RCM’s health and safety representatives to improve the health, safety and wellbeing at work of midwives, student midwives and maternity support workers. They in turn will be able to provide even better care for women, babies and their families.

RCM’s Regional Officer for London Liz Cummings said; “It’s fantastic to see another London Trust commit to RCM’s Caring for You campaign. The entire maternity team at Homerton work tirelessly to provide the highest level of quality care to women and their babies and in order for them to continue to be able to that they must also look after their own health and wellbeing.

“The ethos of our campaign is healthy, well rested staff equals better care for women and their families. I’m looking forward to working with RCMs workplace representatives, learning reps, midwives and maternity support workers at Homerton to help them develop a caring for you action plan and to achieve what we have set out in the campaigns charter.”

Joan Douglas is Head of Midwifery (HOM) at Homerton University NHS Foundation Trust and says; “Caring for the health and wellbeing of our midwives is a key priority for us here at Homerton. We are delighted to sign up to the RCM’s campaign and look forward to working with the RCM reps at the Homerton to deliver this priority, as we know that staff who feel supported provide higher quality maternity care.

The Royal College of Midwives ‘Caring for You’ charter aims to improve RCM members’ health, safety and wellbeing at work so they are able to provide high quality maternity care.  

The RCM are asking NHS organisations to support Heads of Midwifery in the UK to sign up to the RCM’s Caring for You Charter to show their commitment to improve midwives’; student midwives’; and maternity support workers’ health safety and wellbeing at work so they are able to give even better care for women and their families.
