Study reveals women’s views of childbirth and sexuality

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) has appointed a new director for nursing, midwifery and allied health professions.

Karen Wilson will be taking up her position as the newly appointed director from 1 January 2018, following on from Dr Colette Ferguson, who is retiring in December 2017.

Karen will be joining NES from the University of the West of Scotland, where she has been Dean of Scotland's largest School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery since 2015.  

Prior to that, Karen was the first director of health professions at the Scottish Ambulance Service having been a nursing officer then deputy chief nursing officer at the Scottish Government, where she helped establish initiatives such as Flying Start and Practice Education Facilitators.  

Karen said she is really looking forward to joining the team at NES and bringing her wide range of experience to the post.

‘The need for relevant education, training and workforce planning has never been greater and I look forward to playing my part as a Board member and lead for the NMAHP Directorate including psychology and spiritual care,’ she added.
