Postnatal care – RCM at the Conservative conference

The RCM is going to be working with the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the NCT at next week’s Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham.

We’re working together to host a fringe event, “Postnatal care – giving families the best start,” to raise with Conservatives some of our concerns about postnatal care and how it can be improved.

It will take place between 8.30am and 9.30am on Monday 1 October in the Conservative Home marquee, which is within the secure area open only to those attending conference.

As well as RCM chief executive Gill Walton, the other speakers will be RCOG president Professor Lesley Regan, NCT chief executive Nick Wilkie and the Conservative MP Victoria Prentis.

We know from previous years that some of our members are also members of the Conservatives and attend the party conference. If that includes you, please do come along, listen to the debate, ask questions and make your own points.

It is very important for us to say at this point that the RCM is studiously neutral in party politics. As I write this, Gill Walton and other RCM staff are at the Labour conference in Liverpool, meeting with Labour health spokespeople, Labour MPs and others. At a recent event we held in Parliament, we welcomed Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem and SNP politicians. We have always worked across party boundaries and will continue to do so.
