Maternity support workers (MSWs) have a valuable role in working with midwives caring for women and their families. Support workers are working more in the community, in women’s homes and in clinics. Effective care contributes to improving public health and reducing inequalities, for example literacy, where studies have shown a connection between poor literacy and poverty.
